Jednoleté květiny obecně
Jednoleté rostliny, nazývané také jednoletky nebo letničky jsou rostliny pro jediný vegetační cyklus. V jednom vegetačním obdobím vyklíčí, vyrostou, vykvetou a přinesou plody se semeny pro další sadbu. Po tomto cyklu letničky odumírají a my je likvidujeme z truhlíků, okrasných nádob a záhonů.
Vybrat si můžete z nepřeberného množství letniček. Od těch, které jsou náročné na sluníčko až přes ty, které se spokojí s polostínem. Vyjmenovat všechny letničky by bylo jistě velmi složité, ale i přesto jsme jich několik vyjmenovali v rubrice "Druhy truhlíkových letniček", což by vám mohlo pomoci ve výběru správného druhu. Nezapomeňte vybírat podle podmínek, které můžete rostlinám nabídnout. Někomu roste lépe kejlířka, jinému slunovky.
Letničky mají obvykle poměrně vysoké nároky na půdu a kromě toho jsou poměrně náročné na intenzitu světla, vyžívu i zálivku. Nicméně i přesto se těší obrovské oblibě a nechybí snad v žádné zahradě. Za bohatou zálivku odmění pěstitele bohatým a pestrým květenstvím. Letničky se sadí od konce dubna do poloviny května a ze záplavy barevných květin se můžete těšit až do podzimu.
Po výsadbě udržujte letničkové záhony bez plevelů a okopávejte. Okopávání je ale třeba dělat velmi opatrně – rostliny většinou zakoření mělce a poškození snáší velmi špatně. Nezapomínejte letničky během růstu pravidelně přihnojovat plným hnojivem pro kvetoucí rostliny a kontrolovat hlavně nezvané návštěvníky: slimáci a plži dokáží rostliny zdatně zlikvidovat - a to až ke kořínkům!
Nepříznivé zimní období přečkávají nejčastěji semena, někdy i výtrusy. Může se stát, že jednoletky přežijí do dalšího roku, a to pouze v případě, že v daném vegetačním období již nestihnou vyplodit.
Ke známým jednoletým rostlinám patří například některé druhy obilí. K jednoletým rostlinám patří rostliny s velmi krátkou vegetační dobou - tzv. efemery (například osívka jarní). Z kulturních rostlin k jednoletkám patří i balzamína (natýkavka), pelargonie a ze zemědělských plodin salát, hrách, slunečnice, kukuřice setá, vodní meloun či fazol.
